Supporting Communication Beyond Requesting


Learn about implementation strategies to support expanded communication functions for those that use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). We will also explore valuable resources for writing goals to support communication growth beyond requesting.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion, participants should be able to:  

1.      Identify a communication goal for each of the four areas of communicative competency.

2.      List three implementation strategies for teaching other communication functions.

3.      Describe three communication partner strategies.

Lisa Geary
Lisa M. Geary, M.S., CCC-SLP has over 25 years’ experience in speech-language therapy, teaching, and supervision. She previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor in a university setting where she taught clinical and didactic courses including the graduate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) class. Lisa also worked for many years in the public school, private practice, and outpatient rehabilitation settings. Lisa is currently a member of the Tobii Dynavox Learning Team where she develops and conducts trainings for professionals and customers.
